I am a terrible writer. These five words have been going through my mind lately. Plaguing me like a head ache removing all motivation for anything creative. It’s not from a lack of ideas, just a lack of ability to put them on paper. As a newbie, the only way to improve your writing skills is to write. And that’s where the vicious cycle starts. The more you think about failing, the less motivation you’ll have to practice. Lather, rinse, and repeat.
As I am writing, I am peeking over the laptop screen at Little Miss. There she is, on the floor on her hands and knees bobbing back and forth. As she sways you can see the frustration on her face. If only she could figure out how to move forward. Eventually her little arms wear out and she crumbles into a little pile of disappointment. But sure enough, she is back up trying again seconds later.
She’s been doing this for a couple weeks, and it’s only occurred to me now that I know exactly how she feels. Just like she is learning to crawl, I am learning how to write. Both of us don’t quite know exactly what we’re doing, but we’ll know once we do it. She’ll keep practicing until finally her chubby arms and legs take her the direction she wants to go. The question is if I can show the same determination. Can my chubby fingers take me in the direction I want to go?
To find the answer, I only have to look back at Little Miss – Yes. She is my motivation, my inspiration to continue despite the challenge. We’ll do it together, even if she steals the spotlight.

dude, you are a good writer…
you write what you are thinking and that is important.
I am no expert but I think a good writer is someone who writes from their heart and puts their true feelings into the words.
Don’t write what you think people want to hear!
Keep at it… you have a readership man! Congrats!

Thanks Eric,
I’ve come to the conclusion that we are our worst critique! Just have to tell that voice inside to shut up!
