I was sitting in our rocking chair the other day watching Baby A sleep. (finally!) It is amazing how much they grow in just a matter of weeks. Newborns are much more than eating, sleeping, crying, and pooping machines. In fact there are some amazing facts about newborns that I bet you didn’t even know!
Below is a list of newborn facts that I found interesting. Show off your Super Dad knowledge by sharing these facts with your spouse!
Cool Newborn Baby Facts
- Almost all newborns are born with blue eyes. It can take weeks for their true color to come through.
- Don’t get used to that full head of hair your newborn baby is sporting. Between 3 and 12 weeks of age their hair will start to fall out and regrow.
- About 40% of babies are born with a birthmark somewhere on their body.
- At one week old, a baby is able to identify their mother by smell.
- Newborn babies have very poor eyesight and can only focus on objects roughly 8 inches away from their face. If you plan on making those faces only dads are good at, make sure you’re close enough for her to enjoy it!
- A newborn baby will spend on average 20 hours a day sleeping; only waking up long enough to eat and destroy a diaper.
- A newborn baby’s heart beats about twice as fast of a normal adult.
Think of this list the next your newborn spits up half digested milk down the back of your neck!
