Removing the Blogging Training Wheels

training wheels 300x300 Removing the Blogging Training WheelsIts been roughly 6 months since I decided to enter the elusive world of blogging. Throughout that time I learned a lot about myself and creating a blog.

Quite honestly the biggest thing I learned was that I suck at writing. It comes as no surprise, by trade I am a computer draftsperson who spends the day drafting maps on the computer. Any sort of writing I do at work is usually copied from an existing email or template. I know, sounds creative!

If you’ve been following my blogging career you would have noticed that I tend to stick with a tried and true method when it comes to writing my posts. Think of a topic, write a few tips or a how to and away we go. While it was a great way to get my feet wet with blogging and writing posts, it doesn’t leave room for me to grow my writing skills and express a little more personality.

With that being said, I am making a commitment to challenge myself to write posts that are more personable, involving, and clever. (Hence the name CleverFather) There is a saying that goes something like ‘Goals are only dreams until you write them down.’ I probably butchered it, but the meaning is clear. This post is my way of writing down my goals so when I don’t live up to them, you guys will be able to set me straight.

So stay tuned as I take the training wheels off and bike into traffic!

Good luck! I’ve found that my creativity is a finicky thing, and sometimes disappears completely. However, some people have told me I’m more interesting on paper (when I open up), so I’ll take that as a compliment.

Dude everyone writes differently… you’re passionate about your topic and that is what matters most.

Awesome blog man.

Good for you! It’s a tough gig, but from what i can tell, you have a great writing style and, as Eric notes above, being passionate about your topic is what matters. It also makes the writing a bit easier.
Not sure if you’re a runner, but I find writing a lot like running. It’s something that is really quite simple to do, yet we badger ourselves into believing that it is much harder than it really is. One is as simple as just putting one foot in front of the other, the other is simply putting our thoughts down on paper (screen).
None of it makes it any easier though.
Good luck and keep writing!
